Zone5ive - The Bigger Picture: Taking Your Product into Today’s Market

October 14, 2010

Corien Kershey
Director of Strategy
Marketing Magnitude

Keynote Summary:
This session will take the mile-high view and explore what it means and what it takes to bring your product to market. Whether you are involved in product definition from the start or whether you’re lobbed product over the wall, you’ll find that this session examines the major pieces in the go-to-market puzzle – from segmentation and defining customer value to initiating and developing profitable conversations at a time when the notion of “product launch” has all but died – and puts them together into a cohesive picture. Regardless if you manage the whole process or whether you’re responsible for just a part, this session will help put your marketing into the larger context.

Speaker’s Bio:

After beginning her career in the academic field (as an associate professor at the University of Waterloo and a lecturer at the University of Toronto), Corien worked for a number of technology companies as vice-president of marketing and product management or as CEO. Most recently, she is partner and strategist with Marketing Magnitude, a strategic marketing consulting and communications firm. Prior to that, she achieved many other business successes, including launching Trigence Corp.’s signature virtualization product into the market, winning early customers and attracting the attention of investors; driving a 100 per cent increase in revenue in just one year for software provider FuseTalk Inc.; and overseeing worldwide marketing and branding for NetManage Inc.’s e-business product suite.

Corien has developed successful marketing, brand and communications strategies and programs for companies and organizations such as Mitel, Borderware, Omnivex, ConnexALL and PyroPhotonics, covering a range of technologies such as enterprise software, hardware, security and defence, photonics, semiconductor, wireless and social networks. She also has led public sector projects such as branding for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, promoting Canada’s Economic Action Plan for the federal Department of Finance, planning communications for the National Research Council Canada, and providing branding and communications for a number of Canada’s HR-focused industry sector councils.

Corien also acts as a mentor to the business leaders of tomorrow. For three years she was the director of the Marketing Certificate Program at Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business, where she set curriculum and taught. She is currently on the faculty of the private Lead-to-Win, Ottawa’s leading program for entrepreneurs and young emerging executive leaders.
