Shared Services: A Pathway to Government Modernization
ITAC has long been an advocate for the modernization and transformation of government ICT infrastructure and services. We believe that, by eliminating redundant infrastructure and the costs associated with maintenance and support, it also becomes possible to increase service levels and reduce costs. So when the Government announced last August its intention to streamline and identify savings in information technology (IT) through Shared Services Canada, we welcomed the initiative as a major step towards modernization. And, through our Public Sector Business Committee, we have worked closely with Shared Services Canada ever since.
Shared Services Canada President Liseanne Forand, Grant Westcott (Chief Operating Officer) and their team have a large and vital task before them. Initially, their streamlining and modernization plans will focus on three areas: e-mail systems, networks and data centres. Shared Services Canada is currently consulting with a broad array of stakeholders. Liseanne and Grant will be our special guests at the next ITAC Board of Governors event where they will participate in a short interactive discussion about their mandate and vision. They are keenly interested in meeting members of the ITAC community. And, because Shared Services Canada will significantly improve the way Government interacts with ICT SMEs, it is particularly important that representatives from smaller companies join us as well. This will be a superb opportunity to network and hear firsthand how this vital initiative will unfold.
We anticipate that this will be a very popular program. To ensure that as many companies as possible can participate, we are limiting ticket purchases to four (4) tickets per ITAC member company. And ticket sales will be on a first-come, first-served basis so we strongly encourage early registration to avoid disappointment. In fact, why not register today? The event is only two weeks away.
