SMC Best Practice Forum - GTA Cluster

April 10, 2012

Spring Forum - GTA

"Restoring Microelectronics to a Tier 1 Industry in Canada… Obstacles and Opportunities"

Canada's microelectronics industry began in the 50's and 60's with the activities of Northern Electric (which became Nortel Networks), NCR and the NRC. Like the global industry, it evolved from vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing companies into the fabless and chipless companies of today.

But what does the future hold and will the global move to consumer based products help or threaten the Canadian industry? Will the lack of new fabless (or chipless) start-ups damage our opportunities for growth? Is the new area of Microsystems an exciting - and affordable - new area?

This BPF will have a different format with a more traditional, extended panel discussion. So, please join us in Toronto to gain better insight into a complex subject and enjoy valuable networking time with your colleagues in an informal sharing of best industry practices.
