ITAC - SMC Special Event

Thanks to significant private and public investment, the Eastern Townships Region of Quebec is fast becoming a hotbed of microelectronics and nanotechnology discovery, development and innovation. To experience some of this first hand, the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) and the Strategic Microsystems Council (SMC) have organized a special event in the fall: A visit to the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Center (C2MI) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovations in Technology (3IT).

When:
November 5th, 2012

Where:
C2MI, Bromont; 3IT, Sherbrooke

Hosts:
Vincent Fortin, Vice-President, Business Development, C2MI
Gordon Harling, Director, Business Development - ICT & Micro- Nanotechnologies, Sherbrooke Innopole

Registration:
ITAC Members: $45.00 + GST
Non-members: $65.00 + GST

C2MI strives to create world-class expertise in 200mm-based microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and 3D wafer level packaging (WLP). It also does this in regards to advanced technologies associated with the assembly and packaging of silicon chips in addition to embedded systems. C2MI's role is to help produce market-driven prototypes in the fields of ICT applications, automobile, aerospace as well as environment and health to accelerate their commercialization.

3IT, formerly the Center of Excellence in Information Engineering (CEGI), is an engine and a showcase for innovative practices in academic and industrial research. Socially and economically responsible, 3IT accelerates technology transfer in strategic sectors including medical technologies, information and communication technologies, transportation, and energy.

So, please join us On Monday, November 5th, for this tour of two of Canada's top technology centers to find out how your company can leverage the investments being made to allow Canadian companies to have access to world class capabilities and share your company's insights into competing in a global economy with "made in Canada" technology. This special tour package includes transportation to and from Bromont and Sherbrooke, lunch, and a special opportunity to sample some of the best brewery products in the region. As you quaff you can reflect upon the highlights of the day:

At C2MI:

Thank you to the Hosts of this Special Event!

C2MI
Sherbrooke Innopole

  • Seeing technologies that develop the most advanced die-level packaging solutions for faster servers
  • Realizing fabrication possibilities through state-of-the art MEMS device and wafer-level packaging (WLP) - microphones, pressure sensors, inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes), micro-fluidic and biomedical devices, etc.
  • Viewing the implementation of a complete line for embedded systems assembly
  • Getting a better understanding of the advantages of having access to an industry-driven R&D environment as well as the benefits of collaborative R&D activities and access to a complete ecosystem/supply chain
  • Business model requirements to accelerate the development phase and launch new innovations faster on the market

At 3IT:

  • Viewing a complete production line for research, characterization and fabrication of nano and MEMS devices
  • Seeing E-beam direct write and multimodal imaging
  • Visiting a multimedia laboratory for the study of ergonomics, biomechanics and sensors in health applications
  • Observing advanced assembly and packaging
  • Watching the Fab and test for sensors, actuators, microfluidics, energy harvesters, CPV solar cells
