All around the world seismic economic and demographic shifts are reshaping the design and delivery of public services. In countries like Spain and Greece these shifts are immediately discernible at street level. In places like Canada they are more subtle. For example by 2025 the portion of our population older than 65 will grow from 14 per cent to over 20 per cent, placing considerable pressure on healthcare and all our social benefit programs. For developed as well as developing nations, whether they are immediately visible or not, these pressures are urgent, requiring forward thinking government leaders to shift their thinking about all dimensions of public service delivery.
Economic modelling conducted by Oxford Economics for Accenture forecasts that meeting the burgeoning demand for services across all three levels of government will cost Canada an additional $93 billion per year by 2025.
Bernard le Masson, Managing Director, Management Consulting Health and Public Service for Accenture, has a wealth of experience assisting governments in delivering efficiencies in public service design and delivery. He recently led a five-year transformation project for the French Government that helped to remove $7 billion in annual costs. Based in Paris, Bernard will be in Canada in April to discuss his experiences and an important new Accenture study on government transformation. ITAC is pleased to welcome Bernard as our special guest speaker at our next Board of Governors Dinner on April 4, 2013. Please join us for some fresh insights on a pressing problem of critical concern to governments, ICT companies and citizens.
