Health Information Privacy continues to be a prominent concern among Canadians. Regrettably, better reporting of privacy breaches in the health care sector has perhaps only heightened concerns among large segments of
the public. Keeping ahead of these breaches and reacting quickly to address them and their privacy impacts is therefore increasingly important. Canada has a long way to go in improving and harnessing the advantages of technology and electronic information in the delivery of health care services. Doing so in a manner which is respectful of patient privacy and autonomy is legally necessary but will also improve patient care and public
confidence in our health care systems.
