2009 seminars for finance professionals in emerging technology companies
As part of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ commitment to emerging Canadian technology companies, we are offering a program designed to help finance professionals increase their knowledge and understanding of some of the critical issues and opportunities that can affect their business performance. Select session(s) from the list below.
Controls, Boards and Compensation
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Managing a finance department is more than just putting together the numbers. It includes implementing and monitoring controls over financial data, managing the distribution of financial information and data to senior management and boards and building your team. At emerging companies, there is the additional challenge of limited existing infrastructure. So it’s up to you to develop all of the processes from scratch! This session will provide guidance on how to build your finance team, choose an accounting package, implement controls and manage senior management and boards. We’ll also provide up-to-date GTA specific compensation data to let you know how much to pay your new accounts payable clerk (and how much of a raise you should ask for).

Revenue recognition continues to be one of the most complex areas of accounting. It is critical that the finance team have a solid understanding of the accounting guidance in order to apply the rules appropriately and make informed decisions that will benefit the company. This seminar will refresh the basics of revenue recognition, focusing on the latest updates and providing practical guidance to those involved in determining how revenue should be recognized.
Export Controls and Value Added Tax (VAT)
Friday, May 29, 2009
This seminar will identify export control and VAT issues that you may encounter as you expand beyond North America. As emerging companies enter the global market, it is not uncommon for them to run afoul of export control and VAT requirements, often resulting in debilitating penalties. After attending this seminar, you will have an understanding of some common pitfalls and traps in doing business outside Canada.
Monday, June 22, 2009
Stock based compensation is an integral component of the employee and executive compensation packages at most emerging technology companies. However, accounting for stock options under the new GAAP requirements is complex and the tax implications of options are diverse. This seminar will help you understand the accounting and disclosure requirements of CICA 3870, outline the tax implications of granting and exercising stock options, provide guidance when measuring the value of your company’s stock options and help you understand the accounting implications of modifying or re-pricing your current stock options.
$50 for a single session
$120 for three sessions
$150 for four sessions
Visa, AMEX and Mastercard payments are accepted
