The Canadian Health Informatics Awards (CHIA) pay tribute to excellence, leadership and innovation in health informatics.

 

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Canadian Health Informatics Awards! Since 2005, CHIA, hosted by Digital Health Canada and ITAC Health, has been honouring and celebrating individuals and organizations from both the public and private sector who’s stellar achievements and contributions showcase Digital Health excellence in Canada. Nominate a public or private sector organization; a creative, hard-working team; or a valued colleague today

Submission Deadline: 5PM EDT March 9, 2018. Please use this form (the award categories are listed below as well for your information) for submissions, observe the text entry word limits, and answer all questions, as incomplete nominations will not be considered. The successful nominees/short-listed nominees will be contacted the week of April 30, 2018. Award submission will be reviewed by an adjudication committee of industry peers. Award winners will be presented with a formal award at the Canadian Health Informatics Awards Gala ceremony on May 28, 2018 in Vancouver at the 2018 e-Health Conference .

An impartial Adjudication Committee, comprised of leaders in Digital Health, evaluates CHIA nominations/applications and chooses the recipient(s) for all awards and the Steven Huesing Scholarship. In the event that all submissions in a particular category are deemed to not have met the criteria, the Adjudication Committee may choose not to give out the award. All information provided to Digital Health Canada/ITAC Health is treated as confidential. Nominators and selected award recipients are notified in advance of the proposed awards presentation at the CHIA Gala at the e-Health Conference so they can make travel plans.

Award categories:
Clinician Leadership Award 
This award honours a practicing clinician leader at local, regional and/or national levels in Canada who has shown outstanding leadership in advancing the use of health Information Communication Technology (ICT) and informatics or telehealth in clinical practice resulting in improved provider and patient experiences and outcomes.
2017 Winner: Dr. Darren Larsen, Chief Medical Information Officer, OntarioMD

Corporate Citizenship Award 
This award provides client organizations and business partners the opportunity to nominate private sector companies who they feel have demonstrated a very high level of commitment to HI in the past 12 months. In particular, the nominee’s support for Digital Health Canada, ITAC Health and HIM&CC, the official Journal of both associations, will be heavily weighted, although other contributions will also be considered.
2017 Winner: Healthtech Consultants

Leader in Health Informatics Award 
This award recognizes individuals who are in the first five years of their HI or telehealth career and have clearly demonstrated leadership and achieved early success in HI or telehealth.
2017 Winner: Jennifer Gillert, MSc, CPHIMS-CA, Senior Business Systems Analyst, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)

Canadian Telehealth Award 
This award recognizes a program, project or service provider for significant contribution to telehealth in Canada.

Innovation in the Adoption of Health Informatics Award 
This award recognizes a project team that has, through innovation and commitment, implemented an information technology (IT) project that has been successfully integrated or adopted into the health system at the community or regional level. Any new and innovative project in the Health Informatics (HI) or Telehealth community in Canada is eligible for this award.
2017 Winner: Mark Farrow/HEWS Project, VP & Chief Information Officer, Hamilton Health Sciences

Leadership in the Field of Health Informatics Award 
This award recognizes an individual’s outstanding ongoing contributions as a thought leader, both nationally and internationally, to advance Canadian health informatics (HI) or Canadian telehealth.

Project Team: Implementation Award
This Canadian Health Informatics Award (CHIA) recognizes a for-profit healthcare ICT Company and client team that has successfully implemented a health IT solution at a healthcare organization. This award honours the private and public sector team effort. The successful project team will demonstrate the achievement of stated objectives and provide a success story from which other organizations can learn. The award receipt will have fully implemented a health IT solution within the past 12 months.
2017 Winner: Health Report Manager (HRM) Project Team, OntarioMD, Connecting South West Ontario Program, Orion Health and Certified EMR Vendors

Project Team: Innovation and Care Delivery Award
This award recognizes a for-profit healthcare ICT company and client team (private and public sector) that has successfully implemented a new, innovative health-IT solution at a healthcare organization. The successful project team will demonstrate the achievement of stated objectives and provide a success story from which other organizations can learn. The award receipt will have fully implemented a health-IT solution within the past 12 months.
2017 Winner: Provincial eConsult Initiative Project Team, OntarioMD, Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), eHealth Ontario, QHR Technologies, Oscar EMR and KIA Innovations

Project Team: Patient Care Innovation Award
This award recognizes a for-profit healthcare ICT company and client team (private and public sector) that has successfully implemented a health-IT solution that has positively impacted patient care in innovative ways. The successful project team will demonstrate the achievement of stated objectives and provide a success story from which other organizations can learn. The award receipt will have fully implemented a health-IT solution within the past 12 months
2017 Winner: MyGrief.ca Project Team, Canadian Virtual Hospice and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer

Steven Huesing Scholarship
The Steven Huesing Scholarship was established in 1999 in recognition of the contribution that the late Steven Huesing, COACH Founding President, made to the association. The scholarship was developed to reflect the spirit, dedication and innovation that the Founding President brought to the field of health informatics (HI).

The Canadian Nurses Foundation Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship
