Federal Government Announces New Funding for Canada Health Infoway

March 23, 2017 (Toronto) – The federal government has confirmed its commitment to improve the health of Canadians through digital health innovation by announcing a $300 million investment in Canada Health Infoway in Budget 2017, said Michael Green, Infoway’s President and CEO.

“We appreciate the government’s continued support and confidence in Infoway and the transformative power of digital health innovation,” Green said. “This funding will enable us to continue our commitment to deliver better quality and access to care for all Canadians.”

The new funding will enable Infoway to continue to move forward with initiatives to help transform the health care system by “expanding e-prescribing and virtual care initiatives, supporting the continued adoption and use of electronic medical records, helping patients to access their own health records electronically, and better linking electronic health record systems to improve access by all providers and institutions.”

“This funding announcement underscores the tremendous opportunity we have to transform health care in Canada,” added Dr. Peter Vaughan, Board Chair, Canada Health Infoway. “We look forward to continued collaboration with all of our partners, including the federal government, the provinces and territories, patients and their families, and health care providers from across Canada as we continue to innovate together.”
