
Thanks to significant private and public investment, the Eastern Townships Region of Quebec is fast becoming a hotbed of microelectronics and nanotechnology discovery, development and innovation. To experience some of this first hand, the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) and the Strategic Microsystems Council (SMC) have organized a special event in the fall: A visit to the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Center (C2MI) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovations in Technology (3IT).

C2MI strives to create world-class expertise in 200mm-based microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and 3D wafer level packaging (WLP). It also does this in regards to advanced technologies associated with the assembly and packaging of silicon chips in addition to embedded systems. C2MI's role is to help produce market-driven prototypes in the fields of ICT applications, automobile, aerospace as well as environment and health to accelerate their commercialization.
3IT, formerly the Center of Excellence in Information Engineering (CEGI), is an engine and a showcase for innovative practices in academic and industrial research. Socially and economically responsible, 3IT accelerates technology transfer in strategic sectors including medical technologies, information and communication technologies, transportation, and energy.
