Kingbridge Forum 2011 Conference Proceedings
The Kingbridge Forum is an annual event sponsored by ITAC Health and the CMA, with support from the CHA, CPA and CNA. The Forum brings together thought leaders from government, health professional associations, health system managers, industry, consumer groups and academia to consider the impact of information and communications technologies on the management and delivery of health care. The theme for the 2011 Forum, held on April 27-28 of this year, was "Harnessing the power of innovation to improve health outcomes and enhance the patient and provider experience." The Forum explored game-changing trends such as the information technology enabled patient, the mobile health care provider, and new delivery models inspired by social networks and cloud computing to understand how they will transform the way in which patients and health care providers can work together better. ITAC Health and MEDEC form collaboration to advance healthcare through health technology
On April 5 ITAC Health and MEDEC formed a collaboration to advance healthcare through the use of health technology. The initial focus of
the collaboration will be on ensuring that Canadian ICT and medical
technology companies are aware of Health Canada's announcement
regarding regulations for patient management software, helping them to
understand the medical device licensing process and representing the
concerns of industry to Health Canada. For more information please download the news release.
ITAC Health FAQ on Patient Management Software Licensing
In August 2009, Health Canada issued a notice advising companies that
manufacture, import, advertise, sell or distribute patient management
software that these products are considered medical devices and are
subject to licensing under the Medical Devices Regulations. Companies
that fail to comply with the regulations will be prohibited from
importing, advertising, selling and distributing their patient
management software products in Canada. ITAC Health has produced an FAQ addressing more than 60 questions
frequently asked by ITAC Health members and other health system
stakeholders. It is recommended that all ITAC member companies
download and read this document as soon as possible.
