ITAC SM Council Best Practice Forum in Montreal – “The Changing Landscape in Government Industrial and Academic Support”

Following the publication of the Jenkins Committee Report in late 2011, in the Federal Budgets of 2012 and 2013, the Government has expressed a clear intention to shift resources from indirect measures to direct programs for industrial support including  for activities such as research and development.  This change in orientation  has had a large impact on the SR&ED program, displacing hundreds of millions of dollars for use in other areas and programs.  They clearly will have a large impact on the conduct of research-based business.  The nest ITAC SM Council Best Practice forum will review these changes and introduce some of the key government agencies delivering direct programs to support R&D activity.

We will have 3 presentations at this Forum in Montreal.

  1. Karen Atkinson, Partner, Business Tax Services at Ernst and Young (and the Chair of ITAC’s Tax and Finance Committee) and Krista Robinson, Partner, SR&ED and Business Tax Incentives will present an overview of the federal changes;
  2. And representatives from Federal Government agencies will join us to discuss existing new and pending initiatives in industrial and academic support of Canadian  R&D.  Richard O’Shaughnessey, Director, Industrial Research Program (IRAP), NRC will speak about industry partnerships.
  3. Andrea Benoit, Deputy Director, Research Partnership Programs, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada to speak about Collaborative Research and Development Grants (CRDs), Industrial Chairs and Engage/Engage-Plus grants.

This forum will be a particular value to lead academic researchers, CFOs, CTOs and executives seeking a clearer understanding of opportunities for industrial and academic support.  While the focus will be on microsystems, all members of the ITAC community are welcome to attend.   Seating is limited.   Please register early.
