Opportunities for Canadian Cyber Industry in Ukraine

 Description

In partnership with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the SecDev Group, the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) is organizing a roundtable to present specific market opportunities in Ukraine for Canadian cyber firms.

Canada has a top-10 global cyber security industry. However, the size of the Canadian market is limited and Canadian cyber firms must look for international clients to bring their technology and know-how abroad as quickly as possible.

This roundtable will provide insight into cyber-related opportunities for Canadian businesses in Ukraine, a country at the front-lines of cyber incursions. Ukraine’s history of cyber-attacks is both a warning to and call for assistance from the international cyber community.

Learn from GAC and SecDev experts on the Ukrainian market, as they present a joint industry-government study of Ukrainian vulnerabilities and potential areas for co-operation. Among the speakers present, the Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine, Roman Waschuk, will give opening remarks and outline the current state of politics and business environment in Ukraine.  John Zimmerman, Trade Commissioner Service will address how businesses can best engage with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service.

Overview of the Canada – Ukraine Free Trade Agreement

The Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA), which entered into force on August 1, 2017, presents numerous opportunities for the export Canadian goods and services. CUFTA grants Canadian companies enhanced access to Ukraine’s market, and two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Ukraine. In addition to eliminating border tariffs, the agreement also addresses non-tariff barriers such as such as product certification and technical standards. With provisions to ensure intellectual property and robust dispute settlement procedures, the agreement aims to increase transparency in regulatory matters and reduce transaction costs for Canadian businesses.
