Using an interactive approach, we will co-examine one of the most important topics in health IT: ethics. Beginning with a interactive look at some of the primary ethical frameworks and paradigms that guide current healthcare practice, we will move through a conversation about the growing importance of information and communications technologies as moral factors, and conclude with a discussion about the implications of these ethics and paradigms as overarching requirements for systems design.

Speaker Bio – Kelly Davison
Kelly is a CNA-certified psychiatric and mental health registered nurse who has worked with many of society’s most marginalized and wonderful people along the care continuum in two provinces. In 2019, Kelly graduated from the University of Victoria as a Master of Nursing, a Master of Health Information Science and with UVIC’s premier Graduate Certificate in Health Terminology Standards. Kelly is a standards SME with Canada Health Infoway and is the coordinator for CHIMA’s Terminology Standards Community of Practice. One of Kelly’s professional interests at this time is the ethics of health terminology and exchange standards – a topic which encompasses stigma, health equity, interoperability and the morality of technological artifacts within healthcare.
